Florida vs Miami predictions, picks, odds

Sports Chat Place: Miami covers against Florida

"What has Florida proven to make us bet them, even at home against this Miami team? Nothing, and that’s why we won’t. Cam Ward has raised the expectations for this Miami team, and I think they are going to live up to them this season. This Florida defense still isn’t good, and Cam Ward is going to have a field day with it. Mertz is going to get his season off to a slow start for Florida, and Miami is going to get the job done. Back the Hurricanes to win this game and cover the spread."

CBS Sports: Miami (-2.5)

"If there's a place to exploit Miami, it's likely in the secondary after the Hurricanes lost three NFL draft picks from their defensive backfield. However, downfield passing was not Florida's strength last season, and there's no reason to believe that will change in Week 1. The 'Canes are rock solid up front on both sides of the ball and should be able to emerge as the more physical team in a relatively even matchup. Pick: Miami -2.5"

Athlon Sports: Florida 27, Miami 24

"This is one of the toughest games in Week 1 to get a read on. On paper, Miami is the better team. But will all of the 'Canes new pieces come together by the opener? Florida's defense needs to show marked improvement for Napier's team to make a significant jump in the win column. The Gators still have some issues on that side of the ball in this one, but Mertz delivers a couple of clutch drives in the second half, while the homefield advantage of the Swamp is the difference in a close one."
