Restaurants in Stockholm: The city's best places to eat 2024 (1)

Aira

Aira is a restaurant in Djurgården, located at Biskopsudden in a beautiful location by the water. It’s run by the well-known chef Tommy Myllymäki and is one of Stockholm’s newer fine dining restaurants. The ambitions are high, and since opening in 2020, they’ve shown their skills big time. The effort has paid off – after just one year, they were awarded a Michelin star, and you can feel that the star in the restaurant bible is well deserved from the first bite. This place is quite expensive, but you’re in for some gastronomic magic.

Aira’s proximity to Djurgården’s beautiful scenery and surrounding water is evident in both the building’s unique aesthetic and exclusive menu. The menu emphasizes Nordic ingredients and techniques but with flavors from around the world. Enjoy a 10-course tasting menu – from snacks to desserts – with delicious meat, fish, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Some examples of the luxurious delights include scallops, lobster, smoked arctic char, and charcoal-grilled lamb. Pair the food with wines from a top wine list or a good non-alcoholic drink. If you want to go for something smaller, there’s also a so-called “pre fixe,” a slimmed-down version of the tasting menu with four dishes served at lunch.

The environment is cozy and minimalist, with large skylights and water views in the dining room. The service is impeccable, and the open kitchen lets you keep an eye on what’s happening in the kitchen. Upstairs, Aira also has a Chambre séparée with a rooftop terrace for private parties or events.

Fancy som five-star French cuisine? Allegrine is the place to be

Are you in the mood for high-quality food from French cuisine? Then you should head to Allegrine. This restaurant in central Stockholm has a prime location by the small square on Kammakargatan, a cross street to Sveavägen. It’s run by well-established restaurateurs with many top restaurants on their resumes, and in a stylish and cozy space, you and your party can enjoy delicious food and top-notch service. And the vibrant atmosphere is a bonus. Tables fill up quickly, so we recommend booking in advance.

The name Allegrine comes from one of the owners’ grandmother, and it’s childhood memories from her kitchen in France that are the main source of inspiration. The concept is straightforward and simple French food made from quality ingredients that follow the seasons. The restaurant serves both lunch and dinner, so you can have a genuine French dining experience any time of the day. The menu offers plenty of delicacies with a high culinary temperature – Guinea fowl, red shrimp, Linderöds pig, cod, rooster, and Iberico are just a few examples.

A visit to Allegrine is always something special. Still, if you want to take the experience to the next level, you should book “Köksbordet” (The Kitchen Table), an exclusive table for 8-12 people located next to the open kitchen. Enjoy the family dinner feeling à la grandma Allegrine and a specially composed set menu. Bon appétit!

Vassa Eggen’s bar is a great place to hang out with your friends

Vassa Eggen, located by Stureplan, is one of Stockholm’s best restaurants, especially if you’re into meat. This top-notch steakhouse serves grilled meats like tomahawk, zabuton, and pigling, as well as grilled seafood like sooty sea bass and Cajun-style grilled shrimp. If you want something other than barbecue, you can indulge in authentic home-cooked food like veal patty à la Wallenberg, venison meatballs, black pudding, and fish gratin. So you’re guaranteed to be full and happy when you leave.

But Vassa Eggen is not just a restaurant; it offers much more. If you like super tasty co*cktails and hanging out, the bar is the place to be. It’s something extraordinary, like a mix between a co*cktail bar and a club. In other words, a more relaxed alternative to the Stureplan clubs and is perfect for after work as well as late nights. In addition, Vassa Eggen houses one of Stockholm’s newest live scenes where you can see exciting artists and bands perform (no entry fee and no list!). Great food, a lively atmosphere, and a cozy setting with New York vibes – what more could you ask for?

Super tasty Neapolitan pizza. Handmade pasta. An elegant setting like a glamorous Italian movie classic from the 70s. This is what you get when you visit the Italian restaurant Florentine, located at Medborgarplatsen in Södermalm. Here they’ve created an exclusive and modern trattoria inspired by the Italian disco culture. You get a unique experience with delicious Italian food and a lively atmosphere. As a piece of Italy’s soul has moved into Södermalm – more is more sums it up nicely. Behind the concept are the founders of the successful Basta restaurants.

In the kitchen, tradition meets modern cooking techniques, and the menu offers well-prepared Italian classics, focusing on good ingredients and genuine craftsmanship. You can enjoy pizzas with exciting toppings and a dough that has been fermented to perfection for 72 hours or handmade pasta. Nook

Nook is a restaurant in Södermalm and one of the more impressive ventures in the trendy district. It can be described as a relaxed fine dining restaurant, and after many years on Åsögatan they’ve expanded. Nowadays, they’re located in newly renovated premises on Rosenlundsgatan where they have created a three-part concept on 1,000 square meters – Nook Market, Övervåningen (Top Floor), and Undervåningen (Lower Floor), which together have around 120 seats. Whichever section you choose, you can look forward to culinary delights and excellent service.

At Nook Market, you can have an Asian-inspired lunch (don’t miss their bibimbap), order take away, or have a drink. Upstairs, you’ll find smaller snacks, main dishes, and beverages. There’s also a conservatory and a guest beer tap for those who wish to serve their party a glass of beer. And if you want to enjoy a delicious three-course meal, head downstairs to the restaurant’s fine-dining section. It serves creative and ambitious food made from only the best seasonal ingredients, with influences from Asia, France, and more. Plus a solid wine list. And if you want the very best, go for the Nook Full Experience. It’s a full evening at a custom-designed table with a set menu of about 15 courses.

Artes is a great choice if you’re looking for tasty tapas in the heart of Stockholm

If you are in the mood for tapas in a pleasant environment in central Stockholm, Artes is a great option. The restaurant has an excellent location next to Kulturhuset on the square Sergels Torg – right in the middle of the action, in other words. Brasserie Astoria

Brasserie Astoria is located in the old movie theatre Astoria on the restaurant-dense Nybrogatan. It’s run by none other than the highly acclaimed restaurateur Björn Frantzén, whose restaurant Frantzén is Sweden’s only restaurant with three stars in the Guide Michelin. The idea behind this restaurant in Östermalm is to recreate the international entertainment scene of the 1920s and 30s, where the old cinema was an important hub. And the restaurant has done an excellent job – they’ve created an elegant, charming, and relaxed brasserie setting where you feel welcome and taken care of in the best possible way.

The food at Brasserie Astoria is of a high standard, and to make the experience even better, many dishes are finished directly at the tables on food trolleys. Whether you want lunch or dinner, you can sit down in the beautiful dining room and enjoy an extensive à la carte menu offering meat, fish, and vegetarian options. At weekends, they also serve a delicious brunch. The dining room is complemented by a large bar where DJs play music while you sip drinks from the ambitious co*cktail menu. And if you prefer a good glass of wine instead, there’s also a nice wine bar. In short, Astoria has everything you could want from a restaurant in Stockholm.

Miyakodori

The Japanese gastro bar Miyakodori is a gem among Stockholm’s restaurants. Here you can enjoy high-quality food with exciting flavors in a cozy and atmospheric setting. Both the name and the inspiration come from a small izakaya in Kawasaki outside Tokyo, and the three restaurateurs behind this place have really managed to bring the Japanese izakaya feeling to Stockholm.
